Mounted Patrol Curriculum

The purpose of the Evansville Police Department Mounted Patrol Program is to enhance public safety and to build bonds of trust between the community and the Evansville Police Department. The goal of this book is to introduce children to the Evansville Mounted Patrol horses, Blondie & Speck. An interactive book format was chosen to encourage active participation, discussion, and reading together. This work is sponsored by a Toyota grant and other generous donors. We hope you enjoy learning about the Evansville Police Department’s Mounted Patrol Program. Make sure to look for the mounted patrol horses around our community!

Donations support the Mounted Patrol

The Evansville Police Department Mounted Patrol works to create unity between officers and those they pledge to protect. Every interaction builds bonds of trust between law enforcement and the people in our community.

Police Horses are not only popular with the public and especially children, but they are also useful in a variety of situations. Policing on horseback provides the flexibility to patrol areas that vehicles cannot easily reach, such as green ways, parks and other pedestrian areas.

The height advantage for officers while sitting atop the horse allows riders to easily observe crowd activities or look over walls and fences, areas that would go unnoticed by officers on foot or in patrol vehicles.

The Mounted Patrol is currently not included in the department’s budget. The horses are funded through generous donations and contributions sent to the Evansville Police Department Foundation. Therefore, we look to the community for sponsorship and support. Your donations are greatly appreciated.
